Jasmine absolute is not, strictly speaking, an essential oil. Jasmine flowers are too delicate to withstand the process of steam distillation, so they must be combined with a solvent in order to extract the aromatic oils. This results in a slightly diluted final product, which in the case of jasmine might be a good thing, since it would be wildly expensive otherwise.
The scent of jasmine has been associated with love across numerous cultures. The Indian love god Kama is said to tip his arrows with jasmine flowers, so that he might pierce the heart through the senses.
Meanwhile in the West, jasmine was associated with prostitution. ‘Cause love ain’t always pretty, and sometimes a girl just needs to get the bills paid.
Use jasmine absolute as a soothing aphrodisiac, or any time you want a whiff of a beautiful spring morning.
