Westerners have largely fallen out of love with clove since the Age of Exploration, when the Spanish seafarer Magellan returned home from his trip around the world. He was four ships and over two hundred men short of where he started, but the 50 tons of cloves and nutmeg he brought back meant nobody made much of a fuss about the losses. “Totally worth it,” people said… or something like that.
In the East, whole cloves are still widely used as a home remedy for toothache, and clove oil is commonly used in toothpaste. Cloves contain eugenol, which is both anti-microbial and analgesic (however, we do NOT recommend using clove oil internally, as it is very powerful and potentially toxic when ingested by mouth).
We really prefer you safely enjoy the stimulating and uplifting aromatherapeutic benefits of clove bud oil. Unlike Magellan, we value people more than spices.
