Although you may have never heard of vetiver before, you’ve almost definitely smelled it. It is an ingredient in up to 36% of high-end western perfumes, including popular brands such as Christian Dior, Ralph Lauren, and Armani. This is because vetiver oil has a relatively thick consistency, ensuring a slow evaporation time and as a result, a longer-lasting scent. It is also one of the most complex essential oils available, with a chemical composition of as much as 150 aromatic molecules. So far, no synthetic replacement exists.
Vetiver is a grass native to India, where it is often used to make woven items like baskets, hats, screens, mats, and blinds. On hot summer days, many people soak their vetiver blinds in water and allow them to dry, filling their homes with a lightly scented cooling mist.
The aromatherapeutic benefits of vetiver are said to include reduced anxiety, increased focused, and heightened sexual desire
